TheLandOfSinbad

Muscat is the capital of Oman. It is also the seat of government and largest city in the Governorate of Muscat. Since the ascension of Qaboos bin Said as Sultan of Oman in 1970, Muscat has experienced rapid infrastructural development that has led to the growth of a vibrant economy and a multi-ethnic society. The legendary Sinbad also comes from Muscat !

So we thought, why not go as it also coincided with the Muscat Festival (We didn't know what the Muscat festival was all about at that time but good time to go !).
After all there is a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur on Oman Air.

Verdict: Enjoyable and yes recommended !

The pix:
"Whoa! Festival !"

"Whats the hap at the festival."

"Osama wanna-be in white beard at Festival...waiiitaminit, cud it be ??"

'The magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque"

'The Muscat Fish Market."

"Look at the size of them mothers!!"

"Jetty outside the market."

"The entrance to the incredible Souk...90percent of the traders in there are from India and they will always tell you "Looooooking is free !!".

'Next was dolphin watching - the tour folks said that there has been no sightings for 3 days so if we didnt want to go they would refund our money but we decided to go anyway..."

"...and then THERE they were !!"

"Next stop: The Desert !"

"Bedouin camp."

"In the camp having tea and dates with our guide/driver."

"Bedouin kid."

"Our guide/driver then drove around the desert looking for HIS camel whom he told us just gave birth...God only knows how he could find them but he did !"

"The driver/guide's camel and her..er...cameling(?)..haha....apparently 2 weeks old."

"Next stop the Wadi..(Oasis to you and me!..No not the band!)....you wouldnt see this sign in Malaysia !"

"The Wadi Bani Khalid from atop a mountain."

"This is apparently one of the oldest buildings/ruins in Oman..dating back to B.C times !"

BubblingBuble

Went to the Michael Buble concert in KL recently.

If I was not much of a fan before I am now, the guy is seriously good and funny.
He had an excellent rapport with the crowd and I would classify this dude as an "entertainer"

However the venue left a lot to be desired...Buble himself complained about the air-conditioning.
Also felt that the tickets were waaaay overpriced..rm2k+ for the best seats !!!

The pix:

"The excellent back-up band."

"And we got a signed copy !!"

CarlosSantana

Event: Carlos Santana Guitar Heaven 2011
Venue: SIngapore Indoor Stadium
Date: 7th March 2011

Carlos Santana, the legend !!
Thoroughly enjoyable as his band is really tight and and they played both their new hits and old favourites.
However, he did jabber on about politics:"We have the power to change, its in you and me..Egypt..Libya..blah..blah"' philosophy "You and me, Light and love..blah..blah".
Note to Santana: We are here for your music not your rhetoric crap...dont quit your day job.

The pix:

"This is Carlos Santana's wife who came out for one song and showed off her brilliant drumming !"

"This bass guitarist almost stole the show from Santana, He was absolutely brill !!..And wore no shoes."

"I am light, you are love..I am love and you are light...zzzzzzzz!"

"He had this picture on stage..on one of his speakers...wonder what it is.."

ThePrediction

Every year of the year of the rabbit, a wizened old monk appears from a cave at somewhere in Gunung Serapi near Kuching Sarawak. No one knows his age and why he only appears during the year of the rabbit.
Using a crystal and a water bowl he gives a series of predictions mostly accurate.

In the last year of the rabbit in 1999, these are some of his predictions:

1.The son of an ex-leader of a great nation will die in an aircrash.....(n.b. John F Kennedy Jr , his wife and sister-in-law dies in an aircrash)

2. There will be a devastating earthquake off the Mediterranean Sea.... (n.b 7.4 Richter scale earthquake kills 17,000 in Turkey)

3. Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim found guilty and sentenced to jail....(n.b. He was found guilty of corruption and sentenced to six years in jail)

Here are some of his predictions for THIS Rabbit year:

1.The leader of a middle-east nation will fall due to the might of the people.

2. In a shock move; Datuk Seri Anwar quits politics as he is offered a job at Cadbury Chocolates in the UK. He will head their Fudge-Packing division.

3. K.Rajagobal appointed as assistant coach of Liverpool and Safee Sali is drafted into the team making a first for Malaysia. The new Andy Caroll-Safee Sali combination is hailed as the best since Keegan-Toshack.

4. All three teams with beginning with the letter 'W" are relegated this season from the EPL.

And with that , the monk who is known GrandMaster Fu Lo Vit by the locals disappeared again and many await his next appearance and prediction in the next year of the rabbit.

WorldExpoShanghai:TheMalaysianPavillion

Much has been said and written about The Malaysian Pavillion, some good... some bad.
Controversies on the cost, the printing of leaflets with tons of spelling mistakes, leaks etc.
Here is a reply from the Ministry of Tourism on SOME of the faults. Click this.

So this is my personal take on it.
The expo had a theme "Better City, Better Life" and while other Pavillions (those that I visited) stuck with the theme , we were more interested in selling stuff like Ipoh White Coffee, Bonia etc...

Malaysia has huge links with China that others in the region dont, From Admiral Cheng Ho to the Sultanate of Malacca to the Chinese immigrants that came to work in the tin mines.
We could also have featured prominent Chinese immigrants that made good here like Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong but nooooo, we were more interested in selling over-priced art from Balai Seni Lukis Negara with artists no one overseas have heard of.

Other Pavillions tried hard to showcase their links with China, e.g. Turkey's ancient calendar and their similarities with the Chinese one, UAE had teh Sultan's grandughter giving a welcome speech on multimedia screens in fluent Mandarin.
Malaysia by far has more links with China but this was not showcased in the best possible way in my humble opinion.

According to a Malaysian who works in Shanghai, there was a standing joke among the Indonesians that they had 2 Pavillions there as the Malaysian one with the Minangkabau style roof originated from Indonesia.

The pix:
"The Malaysian Pavillion."

"The Twin Towers inside....the antennae was not at the top of the buildings so I suppose it was not according to scale."

"While others had high impact-multimedia, we had these..er...strange looking dolls."

"Poor showcase of our F1 Sepang circuit..we could at least have had a F1 simulator and a multimedia presentation of the history and race of the track."

"While others had high impact-multimedia, we had posters."

"At night.."
