It'sOver

Yes, the World Cup came to a close with Spain being the worthy winners 1-0 over Holland.

Its going to be 3 more weeks before the EPL kicks off but i think after the world cup it would take some getting used to after the amazing event in South Africa.
Some of my friends; like Dan Shan have remarked their world cup withdrawals is so bad that he wakes up at 2:30am , only to realise that there is no football and resorts to surfing RTM1. Golf Channel and who knows maybe even the Hallmark Channel.

So what were my best moments in the world cup you ask (or do not ask) ? Here they are:

PAUL THE OCTOPUS
8 out of 8 correct predictions and he became the biggest world cup star since Pele....maybe bigger as I doubt Pele could have got 8 straight correct predictions. Seriously, someone appoint Paul as Chief Economist at Bank Negara already !!

TECH-NO!
The debate on goal-line technology continues after Lampard's non-goal against Germany. FIFA Prez Blatter did apologise to England but even the English said with that team they would have lost anyway.

THE FIGHTING FRENCH
Yes but only among themselves. Terrible perfomances. Anelka ent home. Training was boycotted. The Football Fed boss quit and Sarkozy announced a govt inquest. Only the French can do it in style.

VUVUZELAS
What was the fuss all about ? I thought it added to the atmosphere in South Africa! Players complaining etc...Jeez !. I got a friend to buy me a couple when he went for the semi finals and I gave one to Tom Drury and have since warned the nation.

DIEGO-A-GO-GO
My perennial favourites, Argentina did better than expected despite Juan Sebastian Veron and not having Riquelme. Maradona was the most watched coach on TV and his PC was always well attended by the media waiting for his next melt-down. Despite losing to germany 0-4 they returned home to a hero's welcome proving this lil dude with God's hand can do no wrong in their eyes.

THE ALL-WHITES
In a rugby-mad nation, the Kiwis proved to be the find of the tournament. The only country to leave South Africa unbeaten !! Amazing and my childhood buddy, Doug Flash Sumner was over-the-moon in NZ. I...Question: f there is a New Zealand...where the heck is Old Zealand ?

BALLS
No..not Robben's but the JABULANI touted by ADIDAS as "thefirst perfectly round football"..critics complained that the flight of the ball was not true, blah blah...but one Diego Forlan must be thinking this ball was made just for him.

SPAIN
Despite the rude wake-up call by Switzerland, they proved to be the team with the best passing game. Captain and keeper Casillas had a brilliant tournament and in my opinion justice was served when their best player, Iniesta scored the winner.

Here is to Rio in 2014 !
