COMMUNITY SHIELD: CHELSEA 1 MAN UTD 3
It took me about half an hour into the game to fully absorb that the EPL season is underway with the Community Shield.
Perhaps it was the hangover from the brilliant and enjoyable World Cup.
It was no great display by Man Utd as Chelsea had most of the play and Van der Sar was certainly the busier of the two goalkeepers but still a win over Chelsea will be accepted anytime, plus winning silverware at the START of the season is always nice.

Paul Scholes was easily the man of the match with Van der Sar coming a close second.

"It was good to see new boy Hernandez fitting in well despite his goal where he kicked the ball against his face and then it went in."

The first goal was a superb link-up with Rooney slotting the ball to Valencia who made no mistake and the third was vintage Berbatov.

Can Sir Alex expect more from veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs this season? The duo still exert a mighty influence, and Scholes sprayed searching passes around with the nonchalance of a kid playing on Sunday in a kick-a-bout.

What about Van der Sar. He will turn 40 in a couple of months, but looked very sharp, focused and dominant here. Whenever Chelsea found a penetrating pass, and a shot on target, the Dutchman plucked it away brilliantly. He was only beaten by a rebound, and looked suitably irritated. This is a friendly, remember, and to have that kind of desire in your team underlines why Fergie will fancy his team's chances for title No19.

The EPL goes underway next weekend with 2 brilliant matches: Liverpool vs Arsenal and Man City Vs. Spurs.
